The assets under management in the European ETF industry decreased from €656.8 bn as of December 31, 2017, to €633.1 bn at the end of December 2018.
Equity ETFs (€437.5 bn) held the majority of the assets in the European ETF industry.
Equity ETFs were the asset type with the highest net inflows (+€27.5 bn) in 2018.
Equity US (+€17.5 bn) was the best selling Lipper global classification for 2018, followed by Equity Global (+€8.1 bn) and Equity Emerging Markets Global (+€4.0 bn).
iShares was the best-selling ETF promoter in Europe for the year (+€19.2 bn).
The average Total Expense Ratio (TER) in the European ETF industry increased.
Physical replication (either full or optimized) is the index replication method of choice for European investors.
The number of ETFs available for sales in Europe increased by 296 products over the course of 2018.
